HUNTINGTON WTW ACCESS PLATFORMS

Description

Haywood & Jackson were tasked by Costain Limited to develop a safe way to access the 8nr accelator tanks at Huntington WtW. The existing fall arrest system required to be installed by reaching outside the confines of the existing platform, potentially creating a fall from height risk, before the fall arrest system could be utilised.

Scope of Work

  • Consider site constraints
  • Design safer access solution
  • Manufacture of 8nr platforms
  • Removal of existing platforms
  • Installation of 8nr new safe access platforms
After

H&J designed and manufactured 8nr new platforms that sat over the existing davit socket system with a GRP lift out access hatch installed into the floor area on each of the access platform. This allowed the United Utilities site operatives to install the fall arrest system from a fully enclosed working area making the operation much safer. This concept reduced the hazard of man handling the fall arrest equipment over the side of the platform and massively reduced the risk of an operative potentially falling before they are attached to the fall arrest system.
